Natural chamois leather is created by tanning sheep or lamb skin using fish liver oil, which penetrates the structure of the leather. This process gives the leather its ability to absorb liquids, softness, and distinctive smell. Today, chamois leather is one of the few types of leather still available that is tanned with oil. True natural chamois should absorb no less than 350% of its dry weight.
